‘Delhi may see three BJP CMs in next 5 years’: AAP’s Gopal Rai

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician and former Delhi minister Gopal Rai chastised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for delaying the appointment of a chief minister for Delhi, implying that the city may have three different CMs in the next five years, similar to what happened under the previous BJP administration.

Gopal Rai brought attention to internal disturbances within the party by pointing out that although the BJP won the elections handily, choosing a leader has been challenging.

Delhi to get three CMs?

Gopal Rai was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, “They still can’t decide on a CM after 10 days, which shows they don’t have a clear leader.”

Gopal Rai continued, “It could end up like last time, when Delhi had three different CMs during the BJP’s previous term.”

Rai stated unequivocally that the AAP would offer fierce opposition to guarantee the BJP stays true to its pledges to the Delhi populace.

He continued, “”The BJP used all its tactics during the campaign, even working with the Election Commission. Despite all their efforts, the people of Delhi chose to stand with us, and we’re grateful for that. Although there is a seat difference, AAP will continue to stand with the people and fight against the BJP”.

Rai predicted that whoever is elected chief minister would have challenges, and he also criticized the BJP for its internal power battles.

He stated, “The delay in choosing a CM shows the many factions within the BJP. Whoever takes the post will face challenges from other groups within the party, and history could repeat itself”.

In light of the BJP’s ongoing preparations to name its chief minister, Rai stated that the AAP would shortly begin its major campaign. “We’ve had enough of waiting for them to decide, but we’ve had enough. We are getting to work right now because they haven’t selected a CM,” he stated.

Rai went on to say that when the BJP names its chief minister and cabinet members, the AAP would choose the leader of the opposition.

The last time the BJP formed a government in Delhi was in 1993, and this will be the first time in 26 years. Sahib Singh Verma, Sushma Swaraj, and Madan Lal Khurana were the three BJP chief ministers of Delhi during the term.

The BJP’s indecisiveness has fueled rumors of internal strife within the party, intensifying the political battle between the AAP and the BJP. The AAP won 22 seats and the BJP won 48 in the most recent Delhi Assembly elections. After the polls were conducted on February 5th, the results were declared on February 8th. After winning 62 of the 70 seats in 2020, the AAP ended its ten-year reign in Delhi, leaving the BJP with just eight seats.
