On Monday, the Supreme Court gave YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia permission to start posting his shows and podcasts again on social media. However, the court required him to provide a pledge that his podcast, “The Ranveer Show,” would uphold “morality and decency” and be appropriate for listeners of all ages.
Following a dispute over Allahbadia’s crude comments on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, the court had barred him from broadcasting the podcast.
Allahbadia’s argument that the podcast was his sole source of income and that the show was essential to the 280 people he employed was noted by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh.
The bench also asked Allahbadia to participate in the Guwahati inquiry and prolonged him temporary protection from arrest till further instructions.
The podcaster caused a controversy on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’ with his crude comments. Several FIRs were filed against Allahbadia as a result of the comments.
The Mumbai police and Maharashtra Cyber are looking into Allahbadia’s contentious comments during comedian Samay Raina’s show.
According to an official, Allahbadia and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani made separate appearances before the Maharashtra Cyber on Monday to provide statements regarding the obscenity case that was filed against them and other individuals.
He stated, “In his statement, Allahbadia admitted that he made a mistake by making controversial comments on the YouTube show, for which he is being criticised”.
According to the official, the social media influencer also acknowledged that he erred in using certain phrases in his remarks during the broadcast.
Allahbadia also claimed to have charged nothing to attend the event, telling the officials that Samay Raina was his friend and that he had just gone to the show for the latter.
