The Good Governance Index 2023, which ranks states and Union Territories (UTs) every two years, will not be released by the center this month during Good Governance Week.
According to an Indian Express article, the government is now preparing to release the upcoming version the following year.
On December 2019, Good Governance Day, which commemorates the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, the Good Governance Index (GGI) was introduced.
The report quoting sources said that GGI 2023 was supposed to be issued on December 23, but the administration chose not to proceed with the release.
According to sources, if the data were released at the end of 2024, it would be old or out-of-date because the data gathered from states only covered 2023. It has been learned that the GGI exercise will be repeated and that fresh data will be gathered.
Among the 58 indicators and ten sectors included by the Index are agriculture, commerce, human resource development, public health, public infrastructure, economic governance, and the environment.
In the year 2019 and 2021, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat had got first place among big states, respectively. he Good Governance Index 2021 was unveiled by Union Minister Amit Shah at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Good Governance Day in 2021. In the aggregate ranking of the 58 indicator index, Gujarat was at the top, followed by Goa and Maharashtra.
According to the source, the 2023 index will be released this month by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions’ Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).
In a press release earlier this month, DARPG stated that “The Assessment Report on Special Campaign 4.0, Good Governance Index 2023 and Annual Report of CPGRAMS will be released”.
