Dholi Devi, the mother of a three-year-old girl who has been stuck in a borewell in Rajasthan since December 23, pleaded to authorities to ensure the rescue of her daughter.
Since December 23, three-year-old Chetna has been stuck in the 150-foot borewell in the Sarund neighborhood of the Kotputli region of Rajasthan after she fell in while playing on her father’s property.
An emotional Dholi Devi told PTI, “It’s been six days… My daughter is hungry and thirsty. What if the girl was the collector madam’s child? Would she let her be there for so long? Please get my daughter out as soon as possible”.
A rainstorm on Friday disrupted the tunnel being excavated to allow rescuers to enter the well, forcing the halt of rescue operations. An iron ring with a rope connected was the first unsuccessful attempt to extract the toddler.
A team of physicians, an ambulance, and NDRF and SDRF teams are also present for the rescue effort because the child has not had food or water for six days.
On Wednesday, a parallel pit was excavated and a piling equipment was delivered. A two-person crew has ventured into the hole to excavate a tunnel in order to facilitate the rescue.
An attempt is being made to excavate a parallel pit close to the borewell in order to reach Chetna via an L-shaped tunnel, district collector Kalpana Agarwal told PTI. Two jawans from the NDRF have gone down into the pit and are drilling by hand. We’ve got them on camera. The equipment they are requesting is being given to them from below.
