According to an official release, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad has implemented a number of measures to lessen bird strikes, which are a major threat to aviation safety.
The statement went on to say that when birds strike airplanes, they can harm engines, windshields, and other vital parts, which could result in dangerous mishaps.
One of the “pioneering initiatives” that has been emphasized is targeted vegetation control. A precise grass growth cycle management approach has been put into place to lessen the airport’s appeal to birds. The statement said, “SVPI Airport has been able to control the growth of vegetation and discourage birds from foraging by using appropriate plant growth regulators and bird deterrents.”
Additional actions that have been taken include:
· Insect Control: The airport has treated the soil thoroughly to get rid of insect prey, especially flying termites, which draw black kites, in order to decrease the amount of insect prey available for birds, according to officials. Furthermore, “farrow’s light traps and black light traps are used to capture insects in large quantities, further reducing bird food sources.”
· Physical Deterrence: Special anti-perching devices that adhere to Hyper Urban Bird Management technologies have been installed to stop birds from roosting on airport facilities.
· Wildlife Management: According to officials, to reduce their influence on airport operations, problematic wildlife species are safely moved to designated regions.
· Acoustic Deterrence: To discourage birds, specialized bioacoustics devices have been placed on airport vehicles and along the runway’s edge.
· Engaging Community: According to the statement, the airport frequently interacts with nearby communities to inform them of the significance of refraining from waste and bird feeding near the airport.
