Pakistan: Gunmen Open Fire At Vehicles Killing At Least 50 People In Kurram District

Pakistan massacre: On Thursday, at least 50 people were killed and 20 injured when gunmen opened fire on passenger cars carrying Shiite Muslim citizens in northwest Pakistan. According to news agency PTI, police say the attack is among the worst in the area in recent memory.

In the Kurram district of the unrest-plagued Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan and has seen deadly sectarian battles between Sunni and Shiite Muslims in recent months, the militants ambushed the trucks. To date, no group has taken credit for the attack.

According to officials, the trucks were part of a convoy that was on its way from Parachinar to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s capital, Peshawar, when the militants started shooting. Rescue officials reported that the attack killed 20 people and murdered 50, including five children and eight women. According to them, the majority of the victims were Shia.

A local journalist claimed that the cars were attacked in territory controlled by the Taliban. There were more than 200 vehicles in the convoy, according to accounts from the local media.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa denounced the incident and directed a team of the chief secretary, regional MPs, and the provincial law minister to visit Kurram right once in order to evaluate the situation. Additionally, he instructed officials to form a Provincial Highways Police force in order to guarantee the safety of all provincial highways.

In addition to offering financial support to the victims’ families, Gandapur sent its sympathies to the families who had lost loved ones. Targeting defenseless bystanders is abhorrent and incredibly heartbreaking. He stated, as cited by PTI, “those responsible for this incident will not evade the law.”
