PM Modi Meets Giorgia Meloni During G20 Summit In Brazil, Hails ‘India-Italy Friendship’

On the fringes of the G20 Summit in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met bilaterally with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni on Monday (local time) and praised their partnership.

Along with other leaders, PM Narendra Modi met with French President Emmanuel Macron and his UK counterpart Keir Starmer during the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Modi claimed that the main topics of his talks with Giorgia Meloni were enhancing commerce, technology, security, and defense cooperation. “Friendship between Italy and India can significantly contribute to a better planet,” he said.

Modi shared on social media platform X, “Glad to have met Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the Rio de Janeiro G20 Summit. Our talks centred around deepening ties in defence, security, trade, and technology. We also discussed ways to boost cooperation in culture, education, and other such areas. India-Italy friendship can greatly contribute to a better planet”.

Additionally, Modi met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in a bilateral meeting.

Prior to this, Modi had meetings with Portuguese and Indonesian leaders during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil. During his talks, Modi placed a strong emphasis on developing relations with both countries in fields including defense and trade.

The ministry of external affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared on X that PM Modi assured Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto of expanding the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

UK PM Starmer announces relaunch of FTA talks with India

After a bilateral meeting with Narendra Modi, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that trade negotiations with India would resume in the new year.
After the discussion between Starmer and Modi, Downing Street said that the UK would look to establish a new strategic relationship with India, which would include a trade pact and increased collaboration in fields including education, technology, security, and climate change.

According to a representative for Starmer, the UK is dedicated to negotiating a trade agreement with India, which has one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Starmer said following the bilateral meeting, “A new trade deal with India will support jobs and prosperity in the UK — and represent a step forward in our mission to deliver growth and opportunity across our country,” according to a statement issued by 10, Downing Street.

Modi called the conversation “extremely productive” on social media. “The UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a top priority for India. We are excited to collaborate closely in sectors like technology, green energy, security, and innovation in the upcoming years,” Modi stated in a post on X. “We also want to add strength to trade as well as cultural linkages,” he stated.

The bilateral encounter, according to the MEA, gave the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership “new impetus.”

PM Modi, French President Macron discuss working closely in space, energy sectors

When PM Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron met, they talked about how to continue collaborating closely in fields like AI, energy, and space.
The French president received praise from the prime minister for organizing the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris earlier this year.
“It is always a matter of immense joy to meet my friend, President Emmanuel Macron,” Modi wrote on X.

We discussed how France and India will continue to collaborate closely in fields like artificial intelligence, energy, and space, among other futuristic fields. He continued, “Our countries will also collaborate closely to strengthen people-to-people ties.

The prime minister shared photos of the meeting and himself welcoming Macron on social media.

The conference is “advancing India-France Strategic Partnership,” according to the MEA’s post on X. “On the sidelines of the G20 Brazil Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron,” the post stated.

“The presidents talked about possibilities to deepen India-France relations in the fields of technology, AI, DPI, and trade and investment. Additionally, they discussed regional and global problems, including as the Indo-Pacific, the MEA wrote in the post.
