On Tuesday, Mumbai Police arrested a man in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for reportedly threatening actor Shahrukh Khan with death.
Last week, a phone threatening Shah Rukh Khan and demanding ₹50 lakh was received by the Bandra police station. Sections 308(4) (extortion with threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were used by the police to document the caller.
The Police zeroed in on Faizan Khan, a lawyer in Chhattisgarh. Since the threat call was placed using a phone line that was registered in his name, the Raipur lawyer was called. After failing to show up for the police, he was taken into custody.
When the Mumbai police reached Raipur, they called Faizan Khan, who resides inside the boundaries of the Pandri police station.
Ajay Kumar, the superintendent of police (CSP-Civil Lines), told PTI last week that Faizan Khan told the media that he had lost his phone and had filed a report at the Khamardih police station regarding the threat call to Shah Rukh Khan.
Faizan told the media, the threat call that was made using his phone number was part of a plot against him. “My phone was stolen on November 2 and I complained. I told Mumbai police about it. They interrogated me for about two hours,” he told the media.
However, he claimed to have filed a complaint against Shah Rukh Khan for a dialogue about deer hunting in his 1994 film “Anjaam”. “My home state is Rajasthan. My companion is a member of the Rajasthani Bishnoi community. They have a religious obligation to safeguard deer. Therefore, it is unacceptable for a Muslim to say something like this about deer. Thus, I protested,” he stated.
“It appears that whoever called from my phone did it on purpose. “I believe there is a plot against me,” he continued.
