Over 1.5 years of their wedding, Indian cricket player KL Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty surprised their fans and well-wishers by revealing their pregnancy. The celebrity couple wrote beside a special photo they shared on social media, “Our beautiful blessing is coming soon. 2025”. In just a couple of hours, after the post went viral on social media, the pair received congratulations from many celebrities, including Krishna Shroff and Shibani Akhtar.
KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty’s Love Story
Athiya Shetty, for those who don’t know, is the daughter of Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty and his wife Mana. Cricketer KL Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty met through a mutual friend at a party in February 2019 and they clicked right away. However, for a long time, the two kept their relationship a secret until Vikram Phadnis, Athiya’s designer friend, revealed it on social media. In a 2019 tweet, Vikram teased Athiya saying, “You seem to be v hyper and excited these days??? Let’s go to KL??? ….. Kuala Lumpur (sic),” to which Athiya responded, “TIME to block you!”.
The two reportedly went to Thailand together for the New Year’s holiday in December 2019 and shared their first social media post together. While they also wished each other on birthdays on social media, they refrained from posting or speaking about each other in public. KL Rahul made their relationship public on Instagram in 2021 by wishing Athiya a happy birthday and sharing a photo of the two of them together. Athiya too started accompanying the cricketer on his tours, which further hinted at their relationship was growing stronger. The couple finally got married in January 2023 after years of dating and being together, and they are now ready to start a family!
Even though KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty are both well-known and successful in their own industries, and there had been much conjecture about their connection for a while, the couple chose not to discuss their relationship or each other in public. It appears that the couple has a close bond and doesn’t require approval from others. Their relationship endures because they are mature and have a strong link and understanding. To the extent that only close friends and relatives were present at their intimate wedding.
