Indian shooter Akhil Sheoran bagged a bronze medal and made a strong comeback in the Men’s 50m 3 Positions Rifle event at the ISSF Shooting World Cup Final in New Delhi. When Sheoran was about to take the 41st shot, he was in the fourth place and needed a strong shot to catch up with the other fellow compatriots Hungary’s winner Istvan Peni, Kazakhstan’s 2023 Asian champion Konstantin Malinovskiy, and Czech Republic’s Jiri Privratsky.
In the final round, Peni shot 9.5, Privratsky 10.5, and Malinovskiy 9.2. Akhil, who was the last to shoot in the final round, took his time and scored 10.7, the best score of the final round. This lifted him to third place, and he took his time and continued shooting with patience won the bronze with a score of 452.6. Peni won gold with 465.3, and Privratsky took silver with a score of 464.2.
“I like to take time to shoot and concentrate so that each shot is perfect,” said Sheoran. This year has been a promising start for Akhil where he won bronze at the Cairo World Cup and secured the Asian Championships title in Jakarta. However, an accident led to a chip fracture in the arm, affecting his performance in the Olympic selection trials. Despite securing a quota for India at the World Championships in Baku, he couldn’t qualify for the Olympics. Determined to move forward, Sheoran is now focusing entirely on the preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
