Kolkata Medical College Gripped by Outrage as Shocking Revelations Emerge in Trainee Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case

In a shocking development at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor has sparked widespread outrage, leading to significant protests and calls for justice. The case has taken a disturbing turn as it was revealed that the hospital’s assistant superintendent allegedly informed the victim’s family that she had died by suicide on the hospital premises, according to a report by India Today. The Kolkata Police have summoned the assistant superintendent and the head of the Chest Medicine Wing for questioning.

The tragedy, which occurred on August 9, has shaken the medical community and the public alike. The young doctor was found dead under horrifying circumstances, with an autopsy confirming she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. The autopsy report also indicated injuries to her private parts, further fueling the demand for a thorough investigation.

In the wake of the incident, the principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, resigned from his position and government service, citing defamation on social media and expressing deep personal sorrow. “The deceased doctor was like my daughter. As a parent, I resign. I don’t want this to happen to anyone in the future,” Ghosh stated, as reported by ANI.

The horrific crime has led to an indefinite strike by resident doctors across government hospitals nationwide, paralyzing elective services, including outpatient departments and non-emergency surgeries. The doctors demanded a transparent investigation and called for the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her determination to see justice served. She stated that she would recommend a CBI probe if the Kolkata Police fail to solve the case by Sunday. Banerjee emphasized her willingness to involve the central agency despite concerns about its success rate.

Protestors have also demanded an apology from the Kolkata Police for allegedly spreading misinformation about the investigation. They are calling for the removal of all senior hospital officials involved and insisting that these individuals should not be reassigned elsewhere.

As the investigation continues, the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College remains under intense scrutiny, with calls for justice echoing across the nation.
