Gujarat Titans, the IPL franchise that has seen considerable success since its inception, is on the brink of significant backroom changes. Head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki are expected to leave the team before the 2025 IPL season. Both Nehra and Solanki have been instrumental in the team’s achievements, including their title win in 2022 and a final appearance in 2023.
As per the media reports, Yuvraj Singh is being considered for a coaching role with the Titans, although no final decision has been made. The franchise is anticipated to undergo several changes in its coaching staff, following the departure of mentor Gary Kirsten, who has taken a full-time position with the Pakistan cricket team.
“There are a lot of changes on the cards. Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki are highly likely to move on, and discussions around Yuvraj Singh have already begun. Nothing is finalized right now, but there could be some major changes in the coaching staff of the Gujarat Titans,” as per the media reports.
Other coaches, including Aashish Kapoor, Naeem Amin, Narender Negi, and Mithun Manhas, might also explore opportunities with other teams. The Titans had a strong start to their IPL journey, clinching one title and reaching the final, but faced a tough 2024 season, finishing eighth under new captain Shubman Gill. The departure of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians and an injury to Mohammed Shami disrupted the team’s balance and performance.
In another development, former India head coach Rahul Dravid is expected to return to the Rajasthan Royals as their head coach. Dravid has a history with the Royals, having played for them and served as their mentor in 2014 and 2015. His tenure as India’s head coach culminated in the team’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory.
The IPL franchise owners are set to meet with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the end of this month to finalize retentions and discuss the Impact Player rule and salary purse ahead of the mega auction. One round of discussions has already taken place between BCCI officials and top executives of various IPL teams, and final decisions are expected following the upcoming meeting.
