Bollywood Star Tabu Shines in HBO Max’s “Dune: Prophecy” Teaser

HBO Max has unveiled the second teaser for “Dune: Prophecy,” a prequel series to Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed “Dune” films. The teaser, released Thursday evening, provides a first glimpse of Bollywood star Tabu, who plays Sister Francesca. The six-episode series is set to premiere in November this year.

Tabu, renowned globally for her roles in “The Namesake,” “Life of Pi,” and the BBC miniseries “A Suitable Boy,” appears briefly but memorably towards the end of the teaser. Her character, Sister Francesca, is described as a strong, intelligent, and alluring figure whose return to the palace disrupts the balance of power.

“Dune: Prophecy” is set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s classic novel “Dune,” which Villeneuve adapted into two films released in 2021 and 2023. In these films, Charlotte Rampling portrayed Reverend Mother Mohiam, while Lady Jessica, played by Rebecca Ferguson, was the Bene Gesserit mother of protagonist Paul Atreides, played by Timothee Chalamet.

Based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the series was formerly titled “Dune: The Sisterhood.” It follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces threatening humanity’s future and lay the foundation for the Bene Gesserit sect.
