According to local council members, there are numerous schools in the region, but because there aren’t enough security guards on duty, antisocial characters are free to roam the school grounds.
There are five schools in the area: Bapunagar Hindi Municipal Secondary School, Rakhial Gujarati Shala No. 1/2, Rakhial Urdu Shala No. 1, Rakhial English Medium School, and Urdu Secondary and Higher Secondary School. These schools serve over 2,500 children from Gomtipur, Bapunagar, Saraspur, and the surrounding districts.
In January, AMC made a drastic decision to build a wall dividing the campus into two sections.
As a result, secondary and upper secondary schools now function on one side. Even though the secondary division has about 720 students, there is just one security guard on the entire campus.
The absence of security has made it possible for outside criminals to lurk on the school grounds. Many reports have been made of harassment incidents involving female students. Several complaints have been filed by principals at the local police station.
As the anxiety has grown, many parents have pulled their daughters out of school. The municipal commissioner has been encouraged by local council members to install enough security personnel on campus in order to avert any significant disturbances.
