Gujarat CM Pays Tribute To Dr. Manmohan Singh, Remembers His Important Contributions To Development Of The Nation

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid his tribute to the Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at Delhi’s AIIMS on Thursday night. expressed grief at the demise of Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and remembered his significant contributions to the development of the nation.

CM Patel, while remembering Singh’s significant contributions to the development of the nation, wrote on X, “The news of the demise of Former Prime Minister of India, renowned economist Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, is extremely sad. While discharging various responsibilities, he made significant contributions to the development of the country. May God give peace to his soul and give strength to his family and supporters to bear this sorrow”.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, two-time prime minister and architect of the landmark economic reforms of 1991, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions.

India’s top leaders including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their grief at the demise of Manmohan Singh.

President Murmu said that Dr Singh made critical contributions to reforming the Indian economy and will be remembered for his service to the nation. In a condolence message on X, she said, “Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh ji was one of those rare politicians who also straddled the worlds of academia and administration with equal ease. In his various roles in public offices, he made critical contributions to reforming the Indian economy. He will always be remembered for his service to the nation, his unblemished political life and his utmost humility. His passing is a great loss to all of us. I pay my respectful homage to one of the greatest sons of Bharat and convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers”.

PM Modi wrote on X, “India mourns the loss of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives”.

On Friday, PM Modi and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were among the prominent leaders who paid tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh at his residence in the Capital.

The Union Cabinet also condoled Singh’s death and hailed him as an eminent statesman and a distinguished leader who left an imprint on national life. At a meeting chaired by Mr Modi, the Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in honour of the departed soul and adopted a Condolence Resolution in memory of Singh.

Leaders cutting across party lines also paid their last respects to the former prime minister in the presence of his wife Gursharan Kaur and other family members. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said he lost and mentor guide”. 

Condolences also poured in from across the globe, including from the US, Canada, France and Sri Lanka.
