On Monday morning, Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey has shocked fans as he announced his decision to retire from acting at age of 37. Known for acclaimed performances in ‘12th Fail’, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ and ‘Sector 36’, the actor shared the news through an emotional Instagram post.
Vikrant, who starred in “Zero Se Restart”, surprised everyone by revealing in a statement that he intended to retire from acting after 2025. He wrote in his note, “Hello, the last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each everyone of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realize it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also, as an actor. So coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between Forever indebted”.
Reportedly, Vikrant is currently busy with ‘Yaar Jigri’ and ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan”.
Raashii Khanna, his co-star on “The Sabarmati Report”, was likewise caught off guard by the announcement. The actress, who was out and about with the actor promoting the movie, also said she was shocked by his abrupt choice. Taking to the comments, she wrote, “What? No!”
Other colleagues in the industry, including Esha Gupta and Dia Mirza, shared heartfelt responses. Esha Gupta sent her love through heart emojis, simply adding, “Vikrant”. On the other hand, Dia encouraged him, saying, “Breaks are best-you’ll be more amazing on the other side”.
Many fans offered their support and best wishes for future, but others conjectured about the reasons behind his decision. While some speculated that it might be the result of political pressure, others thought it might be a marketing tactic for a future movie.
One fan commented, “Most likely a marketing methodology for an upcoming project so that people will be curious to watch the movie in the theatre. Later he will change the statement. Relax.” Another commented, “I just hope this is not because of the political pressure.”
At a pivotal moment in Vikrant’s career, the announcement was made. Many people have admired his most recent film, “The Sabarmati Report,” and his contributions to Indian cinema are renowned for their breadth and depth.
Vikrant recently spoke at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) closing ceremony about how he approaches his work. He stated, “I always try to work responsibly. Whether it is 12th Fail, Sector 36, or The Sabarmati Report, there is always an effort to entertain people while also being part of responsible cinema”.
Vikrant emphasized his desire to make films that are both inspirational and entertaining, highlighting the power of film. He added, “Cinema remains a highly influential medium. Many in society draw inspiration from it. In India, we produce about 1,800 to 2,000 films annually, encompassing all genres. While all kinds of films should be made, responsible cinema is thriving, and audiences are appreciating it”.
It remains to be seen whether this is truly a goodbye or simply a pause in an illustrious career.
