Sonakshi Sinha Faces Backlash Over Interfaith Marriage with Zaheer Iqbal: Shatrughan Sinha Defends Daughter

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are under scrutiny following their interfaith marriage, with online trolls and protests emerging from various quarters. On June 23, Sonakshi shared their wedding pictures on social media but disabled comments to avoid negative remarks. The backlash extended to Bihar, where a Hindu Shiv Bhavan Sena activist accused the marriage of being an instance of ‘love jihad’ and threatened to prevent Sonakshi from entering the state unless her father, Shatrughan Sinha, reconsidered the marriage.

Shatrughan Sinha broke his silence on the controversy, citing a line by Anand Bakshi, “Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna,” meaning people will always have something to say. He emphasized that his daughter’s marriage is legal and constitutional, a personal decision that should not invite public interference. He urged critics to focus on positive actions instead of meddling in personal matters.

Lavkumar Singh, alias Rudra of the Hindu Shiv Bhavani Sena, issued a poster condemning the marriage and threatening to rename Shatrughan Sinha’s house if he did not reconsider his daughter’s marriage. He labeled the union as an insult to Hinduism and part of an attempt to Islamize the country.

Despite speculations, Sonakshi has not converted to Islam. Zaheer Iqbal’s father, Iqbal Ratnasi, confirmed in an interview that Sonakshi would retain her religion. The couple had a registered marriage on June 23, followed by a wedding reception at the Bastion restaurant in Mumbai, attended by numerous Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan, Rekha, and Kajol.
