On Thursday, Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav announced that he would give Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath a book about the Harvard University study on the Kumbh Mela while he was in office.

He joked that he would now give Adityanath a Hindi edition of the book so that “he can actually read it,” in contrast to the English one he had previously provided for “decoration purposes.”
Yadav stated “The study on Kumbh by Harward University was sent to CM through speaker…it was in English….I am sending one in Hindi for him to read”.
In a post on X earlier this week, the Samajwadi Party claimed that the SP government’s handling of the 2013 Kumbh Mela was commended by Harvard University and international organizations.
The post stated, “He (CM) should read this book for lessons on how successful events are organized”.
Additionally, Yadav posted a picture of the book along with the caption, “Reading a good book is a good habit.” This book can be read to gain experience in handling similar situations.
Akhilesh calls UP budget ‘second last’ of Yogi govt
Akhilesh Yadav also criticized the Yogi Adityanath-led government’s Uttar Pradesh budget during Thursday’s press conference, referring to it as the BJP’s “second last budget” in the state.
Yadav further asserted that the budget is unrelated to the BJP’s election pledges.
At the press conference, the former chief minister declared, “Today is a special day as this is the second last budget of this government. After this, there will be the final budget, and then we will get a new government”.
Additionally, he made fun of the BJP’s insistence on delivering the “biggest budget” by pointing out that all new budgets are inherently bigger than the ones that came before them.
He underlined, “Every time they present a budget, they say it’s the biggest one. This statement can be made by any government because every budget is bound to be bigger than the last”.
Yadav also criticized the Uttar Pradesh administration for claims that the waters of Triveni Sangam, where throngs of people are swimming during the ongoing MahaKumbh, are contaminated with feces.
He stated that the data on pollution in the Ganga by the Central government agency is conflicting with the one in Uttar Pradesh, citing the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding the water quality.
Yadav stated, “There is a confrontation it seems. Will the UP Govt say that Delhi govt is not Sanatani. Should we believe what Delhi is saying? Be it data of UP Pollution Board or Delhi Pollution Board … BJP leaders should be given water from Kumbh to use for making food, drinking and bathing”.
Maha Kumbh water quality row
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) was notified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Monday that certain Prayagraj locations during the present Maha Kumbh were not meeting the primary water quality standards for bathing due to the presence of fecal coliform.
Humans and other warm-blooded species’ intestines contain fecal coliform bacteria. Since their presence implies that the water may also contain dangerous pathogens, such as viruses, parasites, or other bacteria, that come from fecal matter or stool that is expelled from the intestines of humans and animals, they are frequently used as indicators of possible contamination in water.
According to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the water at the Sangam location is fit for ritual drinking as well as bathing, hence the government has rejected the report. Adityanath claimed that claims of serious water contamination in Maha Kumbh were untrue.
