In the Enforcement Directorate investigation, President Droupadi Murmu has sanctioned the prosecution of Satyendar Jain, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party. In May 2022, Satyenar Jain was arrested after being charged by the ED in a money-laundering case related to purported hawala transactions.

The former Delhi minister was the target of a proposal last week from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) asking the President to impose prosecution consequences.
In accordance with Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the MHA requested sanction against Satyendar Jain, 60. Unnamed officials previously informed news agency PTI that the request for sanction was made in light of an ED investigation and the existence of “adequate evidence.”
Jain is currently free on bail after the ED filed a chargesheet against him. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accused Jain and others of possessing disproportionate assets in an August 2017 FIR, which is the basis for the money-laundering investigation.
According to a chargesheet submitted by the CBI in December 2018, the claimed disproportionate assets totaled ₹1.47 crore, which was around 217 percent more than the Jain’s known revenue sources from 2015 to 2017.
On October 18, 2024, AAP leaders and supporters greeted Satyendra Jain warmly as he left Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
In a money laundering case under investigation by the ED, a Delhi court granted him bail, stating that there was “no likelihood” that the trial would even begin, much less be finished.
The AAP leader’s lengthy incarceration was taken into consideration by the court of Special Judge Vishal Gogne when granting Jain’s release on a ₹50,000 personal bond.
Jain had been detained since his arrest in May 2022, with the exception of a 10-month medical bail term from May 26, 2023, to March 18, 2024.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Karnail Singh defeated the Jain by around 21,000 votes in the recent assembly election in Delhi for the Shakur Basti seat.
