‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ Makes History After Its Re-Release; Crosses Lifetime Collection Of Original Run At Box Office

After nine years, the romantic movie Sanam Teri Kasam, which starred Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane in the major roles, made a triumphant return to screens on Friday. Despite being a box office bust in 2016, the movie has surprisingly grown popular during its second showing. The film’s two-day revenues have now eclipsed its initial lifetime collection of Rs. 8 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

On the first day of its re-release, Sanam Teri Kasam brought in Rs. 4.25 crore, more than three times its first opening day earnings. The movie’s total revenue reached Rs. 9.50 crore after a notable 15% increase on Day 2, when it brought in Rs. 5 crore.

The film’s enormous popularity on OTT and television is perhaps the reason for the remarkable figures. Sanam Teri Kasam is the latest Bollywood film to enjoy a good second run after a poor first run, following in the footsteps of Laila Majnu and Tumbbad.

Harshvardhan Rane talked candidly about the film’s initial lifetime figures and re-release in a recent interview with SCREEN. He stated, “I hope it does what it didn’t do earlier, that’s it. Kya feel karoon main? Everyone was asking me everywhere to bring this film back. The only anecdote I remember is that we all were expecting this film to do much better than what it did. That void has pushed me today to request everyone to release this. Nau saal hogaye hain (It has been nine years), every year they keep losing faith, but my faith keeps increasing. When it didn’t perform well, we all (the producers, director, actors) felt that pain, a tug in the heart”.

After being re-released, the Hollywood film Interstellar is likewise expected to enjoy a successful opening weekend in India. The movie made Rs. 2.40 crore on its first day of release, but it made an incredible 40% more on its second day, earning Rs. 3.25 crore. Interstellar has already made Rs. 5.65 crore in India after just two days of its re-release.
