Gujarat: State Budget Session From Feb 19; 27 Sittings Likely Over 26 Days

The 15th Gujarat Legislative Assembly’s sixth session will commence on February 19 and last till March 28. The state budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026 will be presented by Finance Minister Kanu Desai on February 20 as part of the sitting session.

On the first day of the session, it will begin with an address by Governor Acharya Devvrat. After the Governor’s speech, the Assembly will take up a expression of thanks, condolences, and the presentation of government ordinances.

On February 20, Finance Minister Desai will present the budget for 2025-26 as well as the fiscal yar 2024-25 and the supplemental expenditure statements from 2009-10 and 2010-11.

The introduction of appropriation bills, and other legislation, including private member bill, as well as discussions on the budget, government resolutions, and requests will also be covered throughout the session.

Highlighting the importance of the meeting, Minister Rushikesh Patel, the spokesperson, said, “The 2025 budget will set a new direction or Gujarat’s development. The year 2025 is expected to be a milestone in the state’s progress”.

The state government had submitted a budget of Rs 3,32,465 crore for the fiscal year 2024–2025 during the previous session.

In the meanwhile, the Budget Session of the Union Parliament is scheduled to start on January 31 and last until April 4. The national budget will be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1.
