Gujarat: Man Accuses ISKCON Of ‘Brainwashing’ Daughter, HC Seeks Response

The Gujarat High Court has received a complaint from a retired army man asking for the return of his missing daughter, who has allegedly spent the last six months “under the influence and brainwashing of priests from the ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness) temple” on SG Highway.

In his appeal, the petitioner has made grave accusations, such as that his daughter is constantly receiving narcotics, including cannabis, and that her life is in jeopardy.

According to the father’s Habeas Corpus petition hearing, his daughter had been going to the ISKCON temple on a regular basis for prayers and worship. According to reports, she interacted with specific temple priests throughout her visits. According to the petition, these priests allegedly brainwashed and influenced the petitioner’s daughter.

As a result, on June 27, 2024, the petitioner’s daughter allegedly fled the house with one of the temple priests, 230 grams of gold, and ₹3.62 lakh in cash.

The petitioner asserted that his daughter had been missing for several months since the authorities had not taken any meaningful action in response to his repeated requests for help from the Meghaninagar Police, the Sola Police Station, and the police commissioner.

The state government, the city police commissioner, the PI of the Meghaninagar Police Station, and the ISKCON authorities—including Nilesh Deshwani, Sundar Mama Prabhu, Murli Prabhu, Nardmuni (also known as Nirmoi Murli Manohar Prabhu), Ankita Sindhi, Harishankardaras Maharaj, Akshaytithi Kumari, Mohit Prabhujji Maharaj, and others—were instructed to respond to the petition against the corpus by the High Court bench comprising Justice Sangeeta Vishen and Justice Sanjeev Thaker.

The next hearing is set on January 9 after the high court ordered the authorities to bring the missing woman before the court. The daughter of the retired army veteran who filed this plea in the Gujarat High Court said that she fled her house after being tortured by her parents and that she is there voluntarily.

ISKCON has declared that they are prepared to assist with the probe and that their legal staff would react.
