In Ahmedabad, a rally was held on Ashram Road to honor Atul Subhash and make calls for justice through changes to repeal what the organizers called “Black Law 498A.” After claiming in a YouTube clip that his wife and in-laws had harassed him and made false accusations against him, Bengaluru engineer Atul Subhash committed suicide.
In remembrance of the “martyrs of marriage,” the Samanta Foundation, Gujarat, organized a rally with about 40 participants that started from the Collector’s Office and ended at RTO Circle after a two-minute silence.
The show highlighted domestic abuse instances and the abuse of laws like 498A, which are issues that are being recognized more and more by important rulings from the Supreme Court and High Court.
According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, up to 1,22,724 men commit suicide each year. This number, according to organizers, highlights the urgent need for legislation that do not discriminate against men.
The participants urged the government to prioritize revisions and adopt gender-neutral legislation, emphasizing that such laws bring unfair harassment to innocent men and their families.
In addition, the event called for the establishment of a ‘Men’s Commission’, akin to the Nation Commission for Women, animals, and trees.
Participants could be seen holding placards that read, ‘Justice is Due’, ‘We Want Justice for Atul Subhash’ and ‘Save Men Save Nation’.
