India On Pannun’s Threat To Envoy: ‘Expect US To Take Our Security Seriously’

On Friday, India urged the US to take New Delhi’s security concerns seriously and denounced separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for threatening India’s ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

The Indian government has brought up the matter with the US authorities, according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, who also voiced the nation’s worries.

ANI quoted Jaiswal as saying, “We take the threats very seriously and we raise it with the US government. In this case, also, we have raised it with the US government and we expect that the US government will take our security concerns seriously”.

Pannun issues threat against India’s diplomat

Indian ambassador Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the head of the outlawed pro-Khalistan organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), reportedly threatened Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

Accusing Ambassador Kwatra of being the spokesperson for the “India-Russia terror nexus,” Pannun said in a video message that pro-Khalistan organizations were watching him.

Kwatra was accused by Pannun of working with Russian diplomats to thwart Khalistani activity in North America.

US says committed to safety Indian envoy

In response to the threats made against the Indian ambassador, a spokesman for the US Embassy said that the nation was dedicated to ensuring the safety of all diplomats.

According to India Today, the spokesperson stated, “The US government is firmly committed to the security and safety of all diplomatic and consular personnel in the United States.”

On Tuesday, the departing Biden administration conveyed optimism that India and the United States will be able to “weather” the difficulties in their relationship that resulted from two recent prosecutions, one involving an Indian billionaire and the other a separatist.

A senior administration official declared, “I have no doubt that we will be able to weather this appropriately.”
