Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, retaliated against Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday after the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT) questioned the validity of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
ANI quoted as Pawar saying, “There is no point in making such allegations here. They (the opposition) should go to the Election Commission and if they do not get justice there, they should approach the court”.
At the Maharashtra assembly’s special session, Aaditya Thackeray said that the elected MLAs from his party would not take the oath of office.
Thackrey said, “Today we have decided that our (Shiv Sena UBT) winning MLAs will not take the oath. If this was the mandate of the people, people would have been happy and celebrated it. However, there was no such celebration or enthusiasm from the public. We have doubts about EVM”.
Maharashtra assembly session
On Monday, the election for the new speaker of the Maharashtra parliament is anticipated to take place. Senior BJP lawmaker Kalidas Sulochana Kolambkar took the oath of office as pro-tem speaker on Friday.
Sunil Tatkare, an NCP MP, told ANI, “The oath ceremony of all the MLAs is taking place. With the amount of love the public has given to the Mahayuti alliance, we will work for the development of Maharashtra.”
During an event on Thursday in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, Devendra Fadnavis took the oath of office as Maharashtra’s chief minister for the third time.
On the occasion, deputy chief ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde also took an oath of office.
The Mahayuti alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won 235 seats in the Maharashtra election, a resounding success.
The BJP became the single-largest party with 132 seats, marking a major turning point in the election outcomes.
Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party and the Shiv Sena both saw significant increases, gaining 41 and 57 seats, respectively.
The Congress won only 16 seats, which was a significant blow to the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. Only 10 seats were won by the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), compared to 20 by its coalition partner, Shiv Sena (UBT).
