Tushar Dholakia, a 2009-batch Gujarat-cadre IAS officer, has been named by the Gujarat government as the Chairman of the Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board (GSSSB), which selects Class III and IV state government officials.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the state government’s General Administration Department (GAD) announced that Dholakia would be leaving his position as Director of Civil Supplies.
For the first time since February 2022, the GSSSB will have a regular chairman as a result.
Asit Vora, a BJP leader and former MLA, served as the GSSSB’s last regular chairman before stepping down from the position months after the head clerk recruitment question paper was leaked in December 2021. Over the matter, opposition parties and recruitment exam candidates had been calling for his resignation.
Senior IAS officers were given more responsibility for the top position following Vora’s resignation. The additional responsibility was given to A K Rakesh, the GAD’s Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) at the time of Vora’s resignation. The position is currently occupied by Kamal Dayani, ACS of GAD.
