According to BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, he will take the oath of office as Maharashtra chief minister tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The CM-designate, who had staked a claim to form a government in the state, called on Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde to join his cabinet in a press conference.
He stated, “The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held tomorrow at 5.30 pm in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi…We will decide by evening who will take oath tomorrow. Yesterday I met Eknath Shinde and told him that it is the wish of Mahayuti workers that he should be with us in this government. I have full faith that he will be with us… We will fulfil the promises made to the people of Maharashtra”.
Devendra Fadnavis said Governor CP Radhakrishnan has scheduled the oath ceremony at 5.30 pm.
Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde stated that he would make a decision regarding the proposal. He told reporters, “I will decide on the suggestion that I should be in the cabinet.”
Shinde was competing for the Maharashtra government’s top position as well. Later on, though, he declared that he would support the BJP’s choice for CM.
Shinde had been camping in Thane, claiming to be ill, which led to rumors of internal strife within the Mahayuti coalition. He did, however, meet with Fadnavis on Tuesday after returning to Mumbai.
Mahayuti, backed by the BJP, won 235 seats. With 132 seats, the BJP became the single-largest party, marking a major turning point in the election.
The Nationalist Congress Party took 41 seats, while the Shiv Sena took 57.
According to ANI, union minister Vijay Rupani announced today that the Maharashtra chief minister will be sworn in with two deputy chief ministers.
The names of the other cabinet ministers would be decided following talks with the Mahayuti partners, according to Rupani, the BJP’s central observer for Maharashtra.
He said there were no differences within the coalition. “There are no differences in Mahayuti, all are happy and everything is well,” he said.
In preparation for his coronation as Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis was unanimously elected by the Bharatiya Janata Party today as the leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party.
