Two suspects who were allegedly trying to murder police officers during a vehicle check operation at Tapovan Circle have been captured by Chandkheda Police. After a thorough investigation headed by top police officers, the accused—who were identified as Anuj Patel and Payal Patel—were taken into custody.
The incident happened late on November 30, during a regular vehicle-checking combing drive that was scheduled in the Chandkheda region between 7 PM and 1 AM. A black Toyota Fortuner with the plate number GJ-01-KQ-2979 drove up to the roadblock at Tapovan Circle at approximately 11:15 p.m. The driver, Anuj Patel, accelerated the car and tried to run over the on-duty police officers after being told to halt.
The car was attempted to be stopped by Head Constable Raimalbhai Panabhai and Police Constable Nitesh Kumar. Nitesh Kumar gripped the car’s bonnet, and Raimalbhai clutched the front door, which was partially open. According to reports, the accused continued to drive carelessly, dragging the constables, under the alleged direction of fellow passenger Payal Patel. When Nitesh Kumar fell from the car near Agora Mall, he suffered serious injuries to his arms, legs, head, neck, and waist.
Driving on the wrong side of the road and trying to hit an approaching dumper were among the several traffic infractions committed by the accused as they fled the scene in their car. Chandkheda Police launched an inquiry after the incident and filed a case under several provisions of the Indian Judiciary Code 2023, including charges of attempted murder and hindering on-duty public officers.
Police located the accused at Dutt Residency in Science City using the car’s registration information. During questioning, Anuj Patel, who operated a brokerage business, and Payal Patel, who was a homemaker, both admitted to the crime. The police also confiscated the Toyota Fortuner that was used in the incident. Legal action is under progress, and the accused have been taken into custody.
