In the Maharashtra assembly elections, coalition partners Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) “failed to campaign as planned,” according to Karnataka minister and senior Congress leader G Parameshwara on Sunday.
“The Ladli Bahin Yojana has a significant effect on them. All of information has been in their hands for the past six months. There was consternation at the gathering when we eventually announced the ticket. Sharad Pawar’s group and Uddhav Thackeray’s group were not well aligned, didn’t campaign as planned, and Vidarbha did not give us many seats”, Parameshwara, who is also the All-India Congress Committee observer of Maharashtra elections, told ANI.
“We expected at least 50 seats in the Vidharbha region, as long as there are EVMs, it will be difficult for Congress to come. In Maharashtra, Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have done very badly. Everybody knows it. We and some of our leaders in Maharashtra sat together and analyzed yesterday. Ashok Gehlot and Baghel, former Chief Ministers and we sat together. The information we got is surprising that EVMs are hacked, not in every constituency but selectively. I believe they have hacked the EVMs,” he added.
With only 16 seats won in Maharashtra, the Congress, which ran for 101 seats as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, suffered its worst-ever loss. The Congress received 20 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections, which was the lowest number ever, according to former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Maharashtra assembly won’t have LoP: BJP
With an overwhelming 230 of the 288 assembly seats, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance was able to hold onto power in Maharashtra on Saturday.
This time, Maharashtra won’t have a leader of the opposition (LoP). This is the outcome of the opposition’s and Congress’s wrongdoing. During the Lok Sabha Elections, they misled people by spreading false narratives. As in Haryana, voters expelled them when they learned about this during the assembly elections, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule told ANI.
