Gujarat: The Epicenter of India’s Renewable Energy Revolution – RE-INVEST 2024

Gujarat has its roots in all the major events of India. Gujarat goes global at every pace of Viksit Bharat, in line with this, Gujarat is playing a vital role in the world of Diplomacy.  Gujarat is an epicenter and has emerged as a crucial hub in world diplomacy, hosting a series of high-level international meetings and summits in recent months. India is the top global choice for manufacturing and investment, with Gujarat as the leading destination within the country. Embracing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India has become a Vishva Mitra (global friend). Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, structural reforms have transformed the economy and performance.

The fourth edition of the Global Renewable Energy Investors’ Summit and Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) was inaugurated by the Prime Minister at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. This global event marked another significant chapter in India’s renewable energy journey, bringing together investors, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the globe, showcasing Gujarat’s critical role in shaping the nation’s energy future.

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored India’s leadership in renewable energy, referring to the “Solar Revolution” as a defining moment in 21st-century history. He emphasized Gujarat’s pioneering role, linking the state’s earlier successes in the White and Sweet Revolutions to its current leadership in renewable energy. “Gujarat was the first to adopt a solar policy and establish a department for climate change. Today, the world looks to Gujarat as the leader of the Solar Revolution,” he remarked. Indian Solution for Global Application: India’s Solar Revolution Chapter in 21st Century History will be written in golden letters said by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

Gujarat: At the Forefront of India’s Energy Transformation

The Prime Minister’s vision for a “Green Future” and achieving “Net Zero” highlights India’s ongoing energy transition, with Gujarat playing a leading role. India aims to expand its renewable energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030, alongside the creation of solar cities, with Ayodhya being the first of 18 planned cities. Gujarat’s contribution to this mission is unparalleled, supported by its robust infrastructure, favorable policies, and ideal environment for renewable energy investments.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reinforced this message, stating that Gujarat leads the way in renewable energy. “With 54% of our energy capacity from renewable sources, Gujarat is a beacon of sustainable development,” said Patel. He also introduced “Mission 100 GW of Renewable Energy” for Gujarat, in line with India’s goal of 500 GW by 2030.

RE-INVEST 2024: A Global Hub for Renewable Energy Dialogue

RE-INVEST 2024 served as a platform for global dialogue and investment in renewable energy, reaffirming India’s potential as a global leader in the sector. With over 200 participating companies and 500 B2B and B2G meetings, the event highlighted innovative technologies and policies aimed at meeting growing global energy needs in a sustainable manner.

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, highlighted that India’s renewable energy capacity has grown by 175% since 2014. “India has already exceeded its Paris Climate Agreement targets ahead of schedule, and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we will continue setting new global benchmarks,” he said.

Gujarat: A Legacy of Energy Innovation

Gujarat has long been at the forefront of India’s energy transformation, from creating the country’s first solar village in Modhera to pioneering the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which transforms homes into energy producers. With its vast 1,600 km coastline, the state also holds significant potential for offshore wind energy, further solidifying its position as a leader in both solar and wind power.

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced new dimensions of energy security and green energy in Gujarat by reducing dependence on fossil fuels while promoting environmental protection. During his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, the country’s first solar park was established in Charanka, and now Gujarat also proudly features India’s first solar village, Modhera. The CM mentioned Kutch’s 37 GW hybrid energy park, four semiconductor plants, and Gujarat’s sector-specific policies, especially the renewable energy and green hydrogen policies, encouraging stakeholders at the RE Summit to study and take advantage of these initiatives. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel mentioned that aligning with the vision of the Prime Minister, Gujarat is progressing to become a leader in solar panel and wind turbine manufacturing. The CM conveyed faith that the summit would play a key role in achieving self-reliance in renewable energy while focusing on the three goals of energy security, clean energy, and net zero.

At RE-INVEST 2024, several landmark MoUs were signed, including a ₹5,000 crore agreement between PGCIL and the Gujarat Government, reinforcing the state’s commitment to green energy leadership.

A Vision for Global Leadership

As the summit concluded, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized the necessity of renewable energy for the future. “Gujarat is leading India’s green revolution, and under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will continue to inspire the world,” he said.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, reflecting on Gujarat’s remarkable history, spoke of how the state has inspired the world. He recalled the pivotal roles of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, two of Gujarat’s iconic leaders, in leading India’s fight for independence. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the world embraces India’s message of unity, symbolized by the Statue of Unity. Over the past three days, global leaders from the renewable energy sector have gathered in Gujarat to share insights and exchange ideas. With over 250 expert speakers and an equal number of delegates, the event saw thousands of citizens actively participating, showcasing its success. The Vice President commended the CM of Gujarat for the outstanding planning of this significant global event.

Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat also emphasized global cooperation in tackling climate change. “Global warming is not just a warning but a call to action. RE-INVEST 2024 has set the stage for that action,” he added.

The summit ended with a reaffirmed commitment to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “One Sun, One Earth, One Grid,” with Gujarat playing a central role in realizing this vision and driving India’s renewable energy transformation. With the success of RE-INVEST 2024, Gujarat continues to be the cornerstone of India’s green energy future, leading the world toward a sustainable tomorrow. RE-INVEST 2024 showcased Gujarat’s pivotal role in India’s renewable energy revolution. From pioneering solar policies to fostering global energy dialogues, Gujarat continues to lead the way toward a sustainable future. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the state is poised to remain at the forefront of India’s green energy transition, setting an example for the world.
