New Four-Lane Road to Connect Gorakhpur to Varanasi, Cutting Travel Distance by 20 km

In a significant infrastructure upgrade, the highways from Gorakhpur to Lucknow and Varanasi will be connected by a new four-lane road stretching from Bhiti Rawat near Sahjanwa to Kauriram. Announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in September 2020, the project aims to ease traffic congestion between Sahjanwa and Nausarh while reducing the travel distance to Varanasi from Basti by 20 kilometers.

The Public Works Department (PWD) completed the survey and detailed project report (DPR) in July 2023. Superintendent Engineer Ravi Prakash Singh confirmed that the PWD had requested the revenue department to measure the land, marking the project’s next phase. The four-lane road will feature two nine-meter-wide lanes, with a two-meter drain on one side.

District magistrates of Sahjanwa, Khajni, and Bansgoun have been instructed to initiate land measurements and compile a list of properties to be acquired. This new road will provide a faster and more direct route for Deoria, Bansgaun, and Kauriram residents, significantly improving connectivity and reducing travel time.
