Bhutan’s King and Prime Minister Visit Statue of Unity, Marvel at Its Grandeur

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan and Prime Minister Lotay Tshering were left amazed after visiting the Statue of Unity on Monday. Their visit was marked by grand ceremonies and detailed presentations, highlighting the significance of the world’s tallest statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

A Royal Welcome at Ekta Nagar

Upon their arrival at Ekta Nagar, the highest delegation from Bhutan, led by King Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering, was warmly welcomed. The dignitaries, dressed in traditional Bhutanese attire, were greeted with a vibrant Garba dance performance, symbolizing Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage.

Exploring the Legacy of Sardar Patel

The delegation toured the exhibitions within the Statue of Unity complex, where they were given an in-depth presentation on India’s struggle for independence and the pivotal role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in uniting the nation. The guide’s detailed accounts and the visual displays left the Bhutanese leaders visibly impressed.

The visit included a trip to the viewing gallery, from where the guests enjoyed a panoramic view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, enhanced by the scenic backdrop of a rainy day.

Understanding the Monument’s Significance

King Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering were provided with insights into the meticulous planning and construction of the Statue of Unity. The King expressed his admiration and penned a heartfelt message in the visitor’s book, wishing India well.

Tour of the Sardar Sarovar Dam

The delegation proceeded to visit the Sardar Sarovar Dam, where they were briefed on the project’s impact on water management in Gujarat. This informative tour underscored the significance of the dam in addressing the state’s water challenges.

Ceremonial Farewell

The visit concluded with a formal farewell to the Bhutanese delegation. The ceremony was attended by State Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma, Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Sudhakar Dalela, Bhutan’s Ambassador to India Major General Vetsop Namgyel, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Anurag Srivastava, SOU head Mukesh Puri, Collector Shweta Tevatia, CEO Udit Agarwal, District Development Officer Ankit Pannu, and Superintendent of Police Prashant Sumbe, among other officials.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Lotay Tshering’s visit to the Statue of Unity has strengthened the cultural and diplomatic ties between Bhutan and India, marking another chapter in the enduring friendship between the two nations.
