Yogi Adityanath Receives SIT Report on Hathras Stampede; Immediate Suspensions Follow

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) handed over its report on the Hathras stampede to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath last Friday. This report includes statements from 100 individuals. Based on the findings, the Yogi government has suspended six officials, including the Sub Divisional Magistrate and Circle Officer. The suspensions follow the recommendations of the SIT report.

Additionally, investigations led by ADG Agra and the Aligarh Commissioner are ongoing. After the tragic incident, CM Yogi Adityanath ordered a high-level inquiry and formed a committee to probe the matter. The SIT included ADG Agra Zone Anupam Kulshreshtha and Divisional Commissioner Chaitra V. The government initially directed them to submit their findings within 24 hours. However, CM Yogi’s visit to the site to oversee relief and rescue efforts delayed the report submission.

The officials requested an additional three days to prepare a comprehensive report. Now that the report has been submitted, all eyes are on the government’s next steps.

The stampede occurred recently during a satsang event by Baba Sakar Hari in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Although the administration had approved participation for 80,000 people, over 250,000 attended the event. The stampede ensued as attendees were leaving, resulting in 121 fatalities.

The SIT report has clarified the situation, and the subsequent suspensions mark the beginning of further actions expected from the government.
