Gujarat’s Path to Progress: CII Engages with Additional Chief Secretary S J Haider on Industrial Policies

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Gujarat recently hosted a significant policy interaction with Mr. S J Haider, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat. Held at the CII House in Ahmedabad, the exclusive session saw participation from 25 representatives spanning diverse sectors across Gujarat.

The event was graced by Mr. Kulin Lalbhai, Chairman of CII Gujarat State Council & Vice Chairman of Arvind Ltd; Mr. Premraj Keshyep, Vice Chairman of Gujarat State Council & Managing Director of KYB Conmat Pvt Ltd; Mr. Vinod Agrawal, Chairman of Arunaya Organics Ltd; and Mr. Nirav Shah, Managing Director of Jayatma Technologies Pvt Ltd. These leaders spearheaded discussions on Policy Advocacy, Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), and the Economic Affairs Panel. Mr. Rajeev Mishra, Director of the Western Region & State Head of Gujarat, warmly welcomed Mr. Haider on behalf of CII and its members.

Key policy discussions during the session encompassed the chemical industry, renewable energy, startups, the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, textiles, Atmanirbhar Schemes, and education. Mr. Haider provided insights into the current state updates and the Government of Gujarat’s vision to contribute significantly to India’s ambition of becoming a USD 5 trillion economy by 2047. Highlighting Gujarat’s current contribution of approximately 8.3-8.4% to the GDP, he emphasized the state’s aspiration to elevate this figure to around 10% by 2027-28 to help India achieve its economic goals.

Mr. Haider reiterated Gujarat’s commitment to fostering investor-friendly policies and emphasized the importance of collaboration across various sectors. “There is magic when the market, academia, government, industry, and community connect,” he remarked, reflecting on his belief in the power of concerted efforts.

Mr. Kulin Lalbhai underscored the importance of understanding the government’s focus sectors and the need for close collaboration between CII and the state government. “CII Gujarat aims to identify and strengthen key sectors shaping the future. This year, we have introduced a Panel on Services with strong leadership to spark thoughtful conversations about the services sector in Gujarat,” he stated.

The session concluded with a productive dialogue, highlighting the collaborative spirit between the government and industry leaders. Participants expressed their appreciation for Mr. Haider’s insights and commitment to creating a favorable business environment in Gujarat. This engagement underscored the importance of such interactions in driving policy improvements and economic growth in the state.
