The Gujarat government announced the appointment of municipal commissioners in relation to the Wednesday declaration of new municipal corporations. Following Mehsana, Gandhidham, Vapi, Navsari, Anand, Surendranagar, Nadiad, Morbi, and Porbandar’s granting of municipal corporation status on Wednesday, the state government’s General Administration Department announced the names of nine IAS/GAS cadre officers serving as administrators in those cities.
IAS/GAS officers currently serving in a variety of positions have been transferred by the state government and assigned to the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department for appointment as municipal commissioners. These include Swapnil Khare, who is the municipal commissioner of Morbi Municipal Corporation; Milind Bapna, who is the municipal commissioner of Anand Municipal Corporation; Mirant Jatin Parikh, who is the municipal commissioner of Nadiad Municipal Corporation; Yogesh Chaudhary, who is the municipal commissioner of Vapi Municipal Corporation; Ravindra Gyaneshwar Khatale, who is the municipal commissioner of Mehsana; G H Solanki, who is the Surendranagar Municipal Commissioner; Dev Chaudhary, who is the Navsari Municipal Commissioner; and M Pandya, who is the Gandhidham Municipal Commissioner.
Kamal Dayani, Additional Chief Secretary, GAD, signed the directive.
Rushikesh Patel, a spokesman for the state administration, stated that the announcement of the nine new municipal corporations would be made either today or tomorrow. Currently, cities make up more over half of Gujarat’s land area. By putting the Larger Urban Area, Municipal Act, 1949 into effect, an administrator will be assigned to the new municipal corporation. The administrator will preside over the elections.
