Amit Shah Claims Congress Distorted Remark: ‘Nehru’s hatred for Ambedkar well known’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to the issue over his comment about BR Ambedkar by accusing the Congress of misrepresenting his remarks in the house on Wednesday. The BJP spokesman said that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru harbored animosity for the Dalit icon and called the Congress “anti-Ambedkar.”

Amit Shah emphasized that for many years, the Congress did not award BR Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna. He claimed that in 1990, the late legal scholar received the highest civilian honor from the national government, which was supported by the BJP.

Shah asserted that Ambedkar and his principles were opposed by the Congress. Shah stated, “Since yesterday, Congress has been presenting the facts in a distorted way, and I condemn it… Congress is anti-BR Ambedkar, it is against reservation and the Constitution. Congress also insulted Veer Savarkar. By imposing the Emergency, they violated all Constitutional values”.

The BJP spokesperson claimed that whereas the Congress government never erected a memorial for Ambedkar, the BJP created numerous websites in his honor.

He added, “When the discussion was going on in the parliament, it was proved how the Congress opposed Baba Saheb Ambedkar. How the Congress tried to make fun of Baba Saheb even after his death… As far as giving Bharat Ratna is concerned, Congress leaders have given Bharat Ratna to themselves many times. Nehru gave the Bharat Ratna to himself in 1955, and Indira Gandhi gave the Bharat Ratna to herself in 1971. Baba Saheb got the Bharat Ratna in 1990 when the Congress party was not in power and there was a government supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party… Nehru’s hatred towards Ambedkar is well known”.

What did Amit Shah say?

Amit Shah claimed during a Rajya Sabha debate on Tuesday that the Congress has adopted the practice of using Ambedkar’s name frequently. He started a huge argument by saying, “If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar, they would have got heaven for seven lives”.

The Congress-led opposition has called for Amit Shah’s resignation or removal, claiming the comment is an insult to BR Ambedkar.

Due to the controversy, the opposition organized a large-scale protest in the parliament today.

PM Modi defends Amit Shah, attacks Congress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi vigorously defended Shah, claiming that the Congress’s “misdeeds” cannot be concealed by its “rotten ecosystem” and “malicious lies.”

Modi said in a series of posts on X, “They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics. Sadly, for them, people know the truth”.

He claimed that the Indian people had witnessed again how one party, under the leadership of one dynasty, used “every possible dirty trick to obliterate Ambedkar’s legacy.”
