Gujarat Police’s sniffer dogs have once again proven their exceptional capabilities by playing a pivotal role in solving eight significant crimes over the past six months. The team has successfully cracked cases involving narcotics, theft, housebreaking, murder, and rape, earning praise from the state’s police chief, Vikas Sahay, who commended the efforts of the sniffer dogs, their trainers, and handlers.
Exceptional Performance in NDPS Cases
Two notable NDPS cases were solved with the assistance of the narcotics dogs. On October 21, 2024, the highly trained dog ‘Gulab’ detected a hidden stash of ganja in a steel box aboard the Gandhidham Express train between Athana and Rasgulla. Similarly, on October 14, 2024, the narcotics dog ‘Capto’ uncovered 12 kilograms of ganja concealed in a bathroom during a house search in the Dhoraji area of Rajkot district.
Tracker Dogs Aid in Solving Serious Crimes
The tracker dogs have been instrumental in solving six serious crimes, including murder, rape, housebreaking, and theft. On October 14, 2024, the dog ‘Bina’ followed the scent of blood at a murder scene in Bhavnagar, leading the police to three suspects on National Highway. On the same day, the dog ‘Penny’ helped solve a high-value theft worth ₹1.07 crore in Ahmedabad rural by tracking the scent from a school bag and water bottle.
In a rape case from Surat rural on October 9, 2024, the dog ‘Power’ traced a bike used in the crime by following the scent from a pair of slippers. Earlier, on September 10, 2024, the tracker dog ‘Rambo’ led the police to a suspect who caused ₹1.10 lakh in damages to a windmill in Porbandar. Additionally, the dog ‘Welter’ played a key role in detecting a housebreaking theft in Patan on August 6, 2024, and the dog ‘Gigli’ tracked a stolen item in Vadodara rural on May 17, 2024, guiding the police to the suspect’s home.
