The Railway Land Development Authority’s (RLDA) ongoing renovations at the Ahmedabad Railway Station in Kalupur are expected to have an impact on at least 94 trains that use the station as a starting, destination, or halting point.
Most of these trains will have their terminals transferred to Sabarmati, Asarwa, or Maninagar Railway Stations in Ahmedabad, while four of them will be moved to Rajkot Railway Station.
The ministry accepted the Railway Board’s decision on Monday, which outlines the new terminals and alternate halts/stoppage places for these trains. The Ahmedabad Railway Station’s railway platforms would likely be rendered inoperable by December, and demolition work will be underway at the location.
Two trains’ terminals will be relocated to Sabarmati Railway Station, but twelve trains—including the Sabarmati and Karnavati Express—will start at Maninagar Railway Station. According to the letter distributed to all railway zones nationwide, 25 trains—including the Jan Sadharan Express and a number of MEMU special trains—will be transferred to Vatva Railway Station. The Asarwa Railway Station in Ahmedabad will receive four trains that currently travel between Ahmedabad and Chennai or Puri. Rajkot Railway Station will be the new location for four trains, including the Ahmedabad-Pune Duronto Express. Three trains that travel via Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra will no longer stop in Ahmedabad and will instead arrive in Sabarmati or Maninagar within the first year of the blockade starting. During the second year of the Ahmedabad Railway Station being off-limits, 34 trains’ stops would be relocated to Sabarmati or Maninagar stations. According to the letter, these adjustments need to be implemented as soon as possible.
Pradeep Sharma, the Western Railway’s (WR) Senior Public Relations Officer (PRO), responded to a question regarding this by saying: “The dates for the commencement of these changes are yet to be decided. As soon as the dates are confirmed, we will provide the information”.
