Gujarat Police Arrest Accused in Valsad Girl’s Rape and Linked to Five Deaths in 25 Days

The police have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape and murder of a college girl in Motiwada village, ten days after the gruesome incident came to light. The accused, identified as Rahul Singh Jat, a native of Haryana, was apprehended from Vapi railway station and taken into custody for interrogation.

According to the police, the 20-year-old victim was returning home from tuition when she was followed by the accused from the railway station. He lured her to a secluded spot, where he raped and strangled her before fleeing. The case first came to light when the girl’s body was discovered under suspicious circumstances near the railway track in Motiwada village, triggering widespread concern.

The incident prompted the involvement of senior officials, including the Valsad District Police Chief, who launched a full-fledged investigation. A preliminary post-mortem report from Surat confirmed that the victim had been raped and strangled to death.

Further investigations revealed shocking details about the accused. Rahul Singh Jat, reportedly a drug addict with a history of criminal activities, is linked to three additional murders committed on trains, bringing the total to five murders in the past 25 days.

A bag containing clothes found near the crime scene became a key piece of evidence. Police meticulously reviewed over 2,000 hours of CCTV footage from Vapi railway station and other locations to trace the accused. Their relentless efforts led to his identification and subsequent capture.

The Valsad district police mobilized an extensive team of over 400 personnel, including officers, home guards, and railway police, to track down the suspect. The operation spanned multiple states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat.

This case highlights the gravity of the crimes committed and the determination of law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice. The accused is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway.
