According to PTI, a live cartridge was discovered in a pocket seat of an Air India aircraft that was just landing from Dubai, prompting the Delhi Police to launch an investigation into a possible security violation.
During routine cleaning on a flight on October 27, an Air India employee discovered the live round of ammunition, a police officer informed PTI. A probe has been started after FIR was filed under the Arms Act. PTI cited a statement from an Air India representative that read, “After our flight AI916 landed from Dubai at Delhi on October 27, one ammunition cartridge was discovered in the pocket of a seat, and all passengers had safely disembarked. A complaint was immediately lodged with the Airport Police by Air India strictly adhering to the laid down security protocols”.
Hoax bomb threats to Indian flights
As several airlines get fictitious bomb threats, a real cartridge of ammunition has been recovered. According to PTI report, over the last two weeks, 510 domestic and foreign planes have received bomb threats that were eventually found to be false. Agencies will now examine the presence of VIPs on board, the geopolitical scenario, and the pseudonymous or anonymous nature of the social media account when determining the seriousness of a bomb threat against Indian airlines.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCAS) has released a new set of recommendations for intelligence and security agencies in civil aviation in response to “evolving security challenges,” particularly the “emerging trend” of phony bomb threats via social media.
To analyze a bomb or security threat against an airline, airport, or any other component of the aviation ecosystem that chooses to declare it “specific,” “serious,” “non-specific,” or a hoax, a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) is gathered at a specified airport.
