The son of NCP leader Baba Siddique, Zeeshan Siddique, an NCP candidate for the next Maharashtra election, voiced dissatisfaction at the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) putting up a candidate against him in spite of “assurances he would run unopposed.”
As a testament to his late father’s heritage, Zeeshan Siddique stated MVA leaders had first come to see him and assured him he could run without any resistance. He said, however, that he was “kept in the dark” until the Shiv Sena (UBT) revealed its nominee. “I was shocked,” Zeeshan Siddique continued, referring to the MVA’s behavior as “hypocritical.” “I wasn’t in a state of mind where I could even consider anything. Nevertheless, MVA leaders visited my home and assured me that they shared my father’s legacy with me. As a sign of respect, they stated, they would allow me to run unopposed. After presenting the proposal, they kept me in the dark. The Shiv Sena-UBT just made public the identity of their candidate and I was surprised. The MVA has a history of hypocrisy, so their behavior is nothing new. I just felt hurt that they tried to play with my feelings at this time, in a time of grief” he continued.
At Bandra East, Zeeshan Siddique takes on Varun Sardesai of the Shiv Sena (UBT). In 2019, Zeeshan Siddique of the NCP defeated Vishwanath Mahadeshwar of the Shiv Sena in Bandra East. He is running against Varun Sardesai of the Shiv Sena (UBT) in this election.
After expressing discontent with the Congress, Zeeshan, the former president of the Mumbai Youth Congress, joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP earlier this month. He said the party ignored him and even recommended that he run from a different constituency. “I will only run from here, and my dedication has always been to the people of Bandra East,” he stated.
